Beloved husband of Georgina Ruth Barr, Dear father of Ross Conley of Calgary; Glenda Ruth of Ottawa; Lois Ann Plunkett of Bancroff; Paul Alexander, Moose Jaw; Allison Pearl, Carleton Place. Dear son of Mrs Sarah Nicols and the late Daniel Nichols. dear brother of Beverly of Kingston; Howard of Calgary; Lois (Mrs Jack Wilson), Carleton Place. Resting at the Alan R. Barker Funeral Home, McArthur Ave., Carleton Place, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. service in the chapel on Wednesday at 2 p.m. Spring Interment Auld Kirk Cemetery, Almonte.

    Lyle Conley Nichols
    Lyle Conley Nichols of 55 Lake Avenue, Carleton Place died suddenly in Ottawa January 31. He was 61. He was born March 22, 1920 in Carleton Place, the son of Daniel Conley and Sarah Ann Ashby. He was a lifelong resident of Carleton Place. On May 22, 1954 he married Georgina Ruth Barr at Almonte Presbyterian Church. Prior to retiring in March 1980 he was employed as a residential counsellor at Rideau Regional Centre in Smith Falls. He served on Carleton Place town council from 1964- 65. He was also a member of the Carleton Place Legion and served overseas with the 30th LAA Battery. Mr Nichols was also a member of the Free Methodist Church. He is predeceased by his father. He is survives by his mother and wife, Georgina. He is also survived by daughters Glenda Ruth of Ottawa, Lois Ann (Mrs Tim Plunkett) of Bancroft, Ontario, Allison Pearl of Carleton Place and by one sister, Lois, (Mrs Jack Wilson) of Carleton Place. Also surviving are sons, Ross Conley of Calgary, Alberta and Paul Alexander of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. He is also survived by brothers, Beverley of Kingston and Howard of Calgary, Alberta and daughter-in-law Sheila and son-in-law Tim. Funeral services were held at Barker's Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on February 3 with Reverend Eldon Babcock officiating. Interment was at Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg Wilson, Ken Cooke, Gary Robillard, Bill McGonegal, Garry Boyce and Wilbert Barr.

Cherished grandmother of Danielle, T.J., Kyle, Christina, Andrew, Michael, Brian, Amyko, Elijah, Tirzah and Rebecca. Predeceased by her brother Wilbert Barr of Almonte. Friends may call at the ALAN R. BARKER FUNERAL HOME, 19 McArthur Avenue, Carleton Place on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm and on Friday from 12 noon to 1 :30pm. Funeral Service will be held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Carleton Place on Friday at 2 pm with the Reverend Hugh Jack officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. Ashby of Fallbrooke, was united in matrimony to one of Carleton's highly esteemed young men in the person of Mr. Daniel C. Nichols. Promptly at the hour the bride entered the church on thc arm of her brother, Mr. Russell Ashby, while the wedding.march was being played by Mr. F. G. Mann, Miss Pearl Brazer was bridesmaid and Mr. Thos. Nichols supported the groom. The bride looked very pretty in a bridal suit of navy blue and carrying bridal roses.     My Grandma, Mary Ann, was a very strong woman both physically and mentally. I've always understood that she was a real pioneer, helped Grandpa build the two story log house which still stands and is lived in . She was a midwife and nurse to many of the neighbours, grew a most bountiful garden, loved to read books, and could do all kinds of handiwork, knitting, crocheting, etc.

    The funeral of the late Mrs. Mary Ashby was held on Friday from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mather, and was largely attended.Interment was made at Playfair cemetery. Mrs Ashby had reached the age of 82 and was generally quite active until recently. The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved ones.

    Mrs John Ashby
    There passed away in the Great War Memorial Hospital, Perth, on Wednesday morning, February 26, Mary Ann Clark, widow of the late John Ashby of Fallbrook. Deceased was an esteemed resident of the community of Fallbrook, where she was well and favorably known

    The late Mrs. Ashby was in her 83rd year. She was born in Brockville, a daughter of the late James Clark and Mary A. Gillespie.

    In 1883 she was united in marriage with John Ashby of Fallbrook, who predeceased her in 1926.

    Deceased was the mother of twelve children, four of whom died in early childhood. A daughter, Margaret, predeceased her in 1926; also a son, William, a Great War veteran, in 1923. Surviving members are: Robert on the homestead; Archie and Russel, in Alberta; Mrs John Lake, Glen Tay; Mrs. D.C. Nichols, Carleton Place, and Mrs. John Mather of Balderson, with whom the deceased lived after her health began to fail and she needed extra attention. Surviving also are one sister, Mrs. George Cavanagh of Vancouver; twenty-six grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

    Mrs. Ashby was a member of St Peter's Anglican church at Fallbrook.

    The funeral which was largely attended, was held Friday, at 10:30, from the home of her daughter, Mrs. John Mather, Balderson, assisted by Rev. Mr Dickinson of the Balderson United Church.

    The pallbearers were three grandsons, Harry Mather, Lyle Nichols, Beverley Nichols, and three nephews, Arden Lake, Delbert Lake and John Ashby.

    The funeral tirbutes were very beautiful, and many expressions of sympaathy were received by the bereaved family.
