    Joe Baye
There is sadness in the hearts of many that Joseph Baye, known far and wide as "Joe," has departed this mortal sphere. For well over half a century he was a familiar figure and a much loved personality in this district, ever since he came from Lansdowne with his young wife and settled near Clayton. A few years later after coming they made their home at the Floating Bridge. Joe Baye loved boats and everything connected with them and the craft he built were models of good workmanship and much sought after. The axe handles he contrived were esteemed the best in the country because he had made them, which was the best recommendation that could be got. He was a genius with tools and to the farmers around he was a friend on much needed occasions for he took a keen interest in all that he did and loved to leave everything in perfect order. Joe was a fullblooded Indian and he was a splendid type of the native race. Therefore he was a keen huntsman. He was a crack shot with his rife and as a fisherman he had no peer. He was a staunch and loyal friend and host of men are sorry that Father Time has stepped in with the inevitable call. His wife died over a year ago and he felt the loss very deeply. He leaves a son and three daughters. he died in the R.M. Hospital.

Joseph married Eleanor Josephine "Ellen" Slack. Eleanor (daughter of Warren Henry "Henry" Slack and Eleanor Rachel McLaughlin) was born on 28 Jul 1855 in Ontario, Canada; died on 12 Oct 1927 in Clayton, Ramsay Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Auld Kirk Cemetery, Mississippi Mills, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Died:
"DRUMMOND PIONEER DEAD. Walter McIlquham Died on Tuesday Aged 96 years. The news of the death of a truly pioneer resident of Drummond, Mr. Walter McIlquham, sr., was received in town on Tuesday night. Mr. McIlquham departed this life on Tuesday afternoon in the 96th year of his age. He had been ill a week, suffering from bronchitis. He was one whose life includes all the years of Lanark history, says the Era. Coming over from Scotland with his parents on the ship Commerce [sic - George Canning], he arrived to find Lanark the centre of a vast forest of pine. But to a boy of his years this was but adventure of the sort that appeals to the average British youth. Settling on a favored spot in Drummond Township there was much to be done clearing away those giant obstructions to farming - the pines. Fortune favored and Mr. McIlquham lived to see one of the best homesteads in the whole countryside identified as his own. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1810. When ten years of age he came to this country with his parents, they settling on the farm now occupied by his nephew, Mr. Walter S. McIlquham. Early in life he married Margaret Kerr and to them were born Peter J., now of Mountain Mill, Alta.; Walter, of Carleton Place; John K. and Maggie, of Drummond. His second wife was Elizabeth Rankin, by whom he had five sons and daughters - George, on the homestead; William, in Carleton Place; Mrs. John Neilson, Ramsay; Mrs. Henry Blair, Fitzroy, and Mrs. John Menzies, Carleton Place. The funeral took place to Lanark cemetery on Thursday afternoon at twp o'clock. Mr. McIlquham was a strong man municipally and politically and was well known in the community of Perth."
