    DeBalinhard memorial set
    Memorial services for Mrs. Thelma Enid deBalinhard, formerly of Red Deer, are to be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Anglican Church of St. Leonard's on The Hill. Mrs. Balinhard died in Sooke, B.C. where memorial services and cremation have already taken place. She was 67.

    Bom in Red Deer on Aug. 27, 1912, Mrs. deBalinhard continued to spend a great deal of time in the city since her move to Sooke in 1976. She was the mother of Jim Foster, former attorney-general of Alberta. And her husband, Digby deBalinhard, is well-known in Red Deer for his business and community activities. She was educated in public school and at the McDougall Business School in Edmonton. She worked from 1930 to 1936 as secretary to Edmonton Journal publisher John Imrie. There she met -her first husband, Alfred James Foster, and the couple were married and moved to Saskatoon, Sask., where they lived from 1936 to 1939. In 1939 they returned to THELMA DtBALINHARD . . . heart ailment victim Alberta and lived in Benalto. In 1945 they moved to Red Deer, where Mr. Foster owned a farm implement dealership until his death in 1949. Despite being a single mother raising three children, Mrs. Foster was involved in many community activities. She was instrumental in establishing the Red Deer and District Archives while working in her later years as a part-time librarian. In addition, she served in various capacities with the Red Deer Ladie s Golf and Curling Clubs, the local Girl Guides, the Gaetz Memorial United Church Sunday School, the Home and School Attocialian and the recreation boaid.: She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Matron. Most recently, she was active with the Victorian Order of Nurses, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Red Deer General Hospital and the Red Deer Public Library. She married Mr. deBalinhard in 1976 and the couple moved to Sooke. She is survived by her husband, Mr. deBalinhard of Sooke, B.C.; two daughters, Joyce Foster of Edmonton and Dorothy Lawrence of Red Deer; one son, Jim Foster; one sister, Marjorie Armstrong of Calgary and two grandchildren, Nigel James Lawrence and Jocelyn Elizabeth Lawrence of Red Deer.     James D. Foster Dies In Hospital

    James D, Foster. 81. resident of Edmonton and district for more than 50 years, died in hospital early Wednesday. Mr. Foster came from Stratford, Ont to Clover Bar where he farmed and taught school for a number of years. Later, in Strathcona. he was in the real estate business. He retired about 1930.

    In earlier days he was an active member of Metropolitan United Church. A member of the Edmonton KorticulUiral Societr. he maintained an interest in agriculture and horticulture until his death. Mr. Foster was a son-in-law of the late Rice Sheppard. former city alderman. He is survived by his widow and one son. W. R. Foster, Victoria. B.C. Another son Alfred James Foster of Red Deer, died last December. Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
