ADAMS. A resident of Perth for nearly 65 years, Mrs. John W. Adams departed this life on Friday, September 15th, in the fullness of years, honored and esteemed. The cause of death is attributed to a general breaking-up of the system. Mrs. Adams was of Irish descent, Susan Morris by maiden name, born in 1823, and came to this country with her parents in 1833; they settled near Carleton Place. In 1841 deceased was married to Thomas [sic - John] McEwen, who died about the year 1865. The union was blessed with a family of five children, of whom three are now living. They are: James and George, Merrickville, and Mrs. John Dodds, Glen Tay. Deceased remained a widow for 20 years and in 1884 or thereabouts was married to the late John W. Adams, who died some thirteen years ago. One brother Thomas Morris, who was present at the funeral, resides at Merrickville. The funeral took place on Monday morning of last week to Elmwood Cemetery and was attended by many citizens who had known deceased all their lives. Services were conducted at the house and grave by Rev. D. Currie. The chief mourners were her two sons, her aged brother, her grandson John McEwen, of Brockville, and her son-in-law Mr. John Dodds. The pallbearers were all old friends of hers: Messers. M. R. Dodds, Robert Allan, Wm. Menzies, Wm. Crosskerry, Francis Spalding and J. F. Kennedy. Mrs. Adams was a christian and womanly woman. She always took an active part and interest until declining years forbade it in Knox church of which she was a constant member. And one who knew her intimately speaks of her as a good neighbor and a comfort to the afflicted and bereaved.
