He made axes and did general work but he couldn't make a go of it and Bob Clarke took over. Dad's database had Mary Ann. Mom's notes, based on Grandma's notes indicate 'Elizabeth' Gillespie, from near Brockville, ON. It also indicates that they were married in Caleraine, Ireland and later lived in Pennsylvania where Grandma's Grandmother had a large dry goods store. It was thought they were United Empire Loyalists. Her Grandfather had been in the American War, and subsequently was in poor health and died at age 49 of lung trouble.

    Died:
    Obituary of Andrew Moodie (1811-1905)

For nearly one hundred years Andrew Moodie was a resident of North Burgess Township, and his death on Thursday, May 11th - no account of which was unavoidably crowded out of last week's Courier - removes perhaps the oldest living resident of the township. Mr. Moodie was of sturdy Scotch ancestry and always enjoyed the best of health during his long lease of life until within a few months back when the inevitable seemed to be stealing over him. He was of Scotch descent and came to this country with his parents when a mere babe in his mother's arms. His father's name was Thomas Moodie and he settled on the farm now occupied by Mr. Alex. Moodie. The subject of this obituary took to the occupation of farming and founded the homestead now owned by his son James.

Early in life deceased was married to the widow of the late William Ferrier - a pioneer resident also - who was killed by a tree falling on him while traveling through the wilderness with a yoke of oxen and a quantity of potash en route to the market town Brockville. A large family blessed this union, of which four survive today: Thomas, town; Andrew, 9th line of Burgess; James, on the homestead, and Mrs. Anderson, town. Mrs. Arthur Warren [Mrs Arthur Warner, Christina Ferrier], of Calabogie, is a step daughter. Two brothers also survive: John on the 9th line of Burgess, and Alex. on the Scotch Line. His father lived to be 96 years of age and his two brothers are 80 and 74 respectively. The funeral took place on Saturday, May 13th, to Elmwood Cemetery and was very large in point of numbers.
