DEATH OF HERBERT BOYLE, Mackay, Queensland, Daily Mercury, pg 2.?/i?
Constable Weir, of Farleigh, has forwarded a report to Sub-Inspector Wyer giving further details in connection with the fatal accident to the young man, Herbert Boyle, on November 1. (From the account given by two eye-witnesses, it appears three or four loaded cane trucks were being drawn up an incline from the mill weighbridge to the mill. There were two horses attached) to the trucks, and Boyle neglected to sprag the wheels before detaching the
horses, wih the result that the trucks began to move down the incline. The attention of Boyle was drawn to this, and he went to the front of the trucks and ran backwards with his left hand pushing against the trucks endeavouring to sprag the wheel with his right. One ot the men who witnessed the occurrence called out to Boyle to keep clear and
at the same time ran to a set of points to let the trucks through onto a siding. While doing this he heard another man called out, ''The trucks are over him," and on looking back saw Boyle lying on his back and halfway under the cane
trucks, which was then at a stand still. When running backwards Boyle had tripped and fallen with his right leg across the line. He was soon) released from this position and taken to the District Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. He came from Bundaberg, where his people reside.

    BOYLE?HORTON.
A very pretty wedding (writes a correspondent) was celebrated in the Milora Methodist Church on Wednesday, the 13th instant, at 11 a.m., the Rev. H. Potter being the celebrant. The contracting parties were Mr. Herbert Boyle, of Murgon (son of Mr. Mungo Boyle, Harrisville), and Miss "Ciss" Horton (daughter of Mr. William Horton, Munbilla). The church was very prettily decorated by the lady friends of the bride, and over the bridal party a wedding-bell was suspended. The hymn "The voice that breathed o'er Eden" was sung by the congregation, and the "Wedding March" was played by Mr. Pool (church organist), as the bridal party left the church. Much interest in the ceremony was evinced by the large gathering of the friends of both families, who are highly respected and well known through
out the district. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a charming gown of creme silk poplin-de-chene. The skirt was made in semiempire style, the front panel being of silver lace; girdle of cream mervilleux ribbon, finished with deep silk fringe ; bodice, yoke of tucked net and a berthe of silk lace, finished with silk bob fringe, folded sleeves, finished at the wrist with fillings of lace. A wreath of orange blossoms was worn under a pretty tulle veil. The bride carried a beautiful shower bouquet of lilies, roses, and asparagus, tied with long streamers of white ribbon. She was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Brighouse, Brisbane, (chief), and Miss Boyle (sister of the
bridegroom). The chief bridesmaid was dressed in cream silk voile, the skirt being semi-empire style, finished
with silk girdle ; the blouse daintily trimmed with silk lace and ilnsertion, kimino style ; ruckled sleeves, finished with silk lace ; hat of creme erin, swathed with striped crystalline, wreath of pink bebe roses and moss, beautiful white ostrict plume and mervilleaux ribbon. Miss Boyle was gowned in creme cashmere, tucked skirt, and blouse trimmed with lace. She wore a pretty hat of creme erin, swathed with striped crystalline, and trimmed with clusters of hydrangea and ivy leaves. Both bridesmaids carried pretty bouquets of white and pink sweet peas and asparagus.

Messrs. Boyle and Horton attended the bridegroom. After the ceremony a large number of guests were entertained at Mountain View, the residence of the bride's parents. The mother of the bride, who received the guests wore a becoming black dress, trimmed with silk and insertion, toque of black and white, sequined net, black wing finished with black and white rosette of chiffon and lace, and black velvet. The wedding breakfast was a very enjoyable function, the chief feature of the table being a three-tier wedding cake, beautifully iced and decorated by Mr. H. Mathams, of Brisbane. The usual toasts were honoured. Later Mr. and Mrs. H. Boyle left for Brisbane, the latter wearing a pretty travelling dress of navy-blue silk colienne, semi-empire style, with silk trimmings, hat to harmonise.
The young people were the recipients of many beautiful and valuable presents.

    Notes:

?i?from Family Search: Mungo Boyle (LH26-FXG)

?/i?Mungo Alexander Boyle was remembered in an article published in a local Australian newspaper in 1931 as having an injured foot 'through having chopped it while falling scrub in Canada'. (actually in Queensland)

The father died at Ipswich. He came from Canada with his brothers James, Robert, John and Munga. The latter had an injured foot. The other brothers were pioneers of Harrisville district and lived long and useful lives. He was a great friend of John Hooper, father of Mrs. E. McLean of Boonah and May who married John Vardon, a selector of Milora.

    ?i?From a Harrisville Local History
?/i?Their youngest son, Mungo and his wife Sarah Watson, an Irish lass, continued to farm at Kelvin Grove and reared eleven children there. Their children married members of other pioneering families and have been a part of the history of Harrisville. Ernest, Harriet and Olive remained single and llived at Kelvin Grove till their deaths. They were involved in the local church, School of Arts and other organizations.

Mary, Mungo and John Mason Miller are the only family members mentioned in John's letters in 1870 to his twin brother Andrew Burns Miller.

(Medical):My grandfather Boyle had a severe accident. He was using an adze to trim a log and a chip of wood stuck to the corner of the adze and caused it to glance off and nearly severed his foot across the instep. Remarkably, I think there was an old army doctor in Ipswich and he came out and did what he could but grandfather always had a lame foot, his foot wouldn't go flat on the ground, so he always was handicapped by his damaged foot.

    Birth:
Birth date also recorded as c 1842 @ Lanark
His marriage certificate Australia, 18 Nov 1869, specifically gives his birthplace as Lanark, Lanark Cty, Canada West.

THE LATE MR. MUNGO BOYLE. MILORA, August 4. There passed away at his residence at Hillgrove, on Saturday, July 26, an old identity of the Harrisville district, the late Mr. Mungo Boyle, in his 90th year. The late Mr. Boyle was born in Lanack, Canada, in the year 1841, and his early manhood was spent among the Canadian hills. For many years he was engaged in felling timber and rafting it down the rivers to the sawmilling settlements. At the age of 24 he came to Australia, landing in Brisbane in February, 1866. Almost immediately he came to Harrisville, where an elder brother had already selected the piece of land which has since remained the home of the Boyle family. In 1871 he married Miss Sarah Watson, who died 12 years ago. The late Mr. Boyle leaves five sons and five daughters, 19 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Of a happy, genial, disposition, the late Mr. Boyle was a friend to all, and in return was beloved by all. He passed peacefully away in his own home, nursed by loving daughters. His remains were in-terred in the Harrisville Cemetery, on Sunday afternoon, July 27, in the presence of a large crowd of mourners.

    Notes:

My grandfather William Horton was an early settler in the Munbilla area and had quite a large farm at the Green Swamp which was, at that stage, a very beautiful stretch of water of some hundreds of acres. Of late years, this has been more or less drained but at that time it was a beautiful stretch of water and alive with bird life - black swans nested there, pelicans visited there, horde of ducks and other waterfowl. They made their living by milking cows on a dairy farm and my mother was brought up there. My grandfather was a migrant from England in 1871, he came with his father and other members of the family and they took up land at what was then the Fassifern Scrub, later called Englesberg and now called Kalbar, so he was also an early settler in the district although he did not select that land, he bought it from the previous selector.
