Jacob's parents were from Scotland. His father was James Halliday, born Sept. 14, 1831, and his mother was Janet McVittie/Veetie, 1834-1918.

    Jacob Halliday was first married to Penelope Hood, who died in childbirth. He later married Penelope Hood's first cousin, Annie Hood. Jake and Annie were married on May 25, 1891 at Howick, Huron, Ontario. He is listed as 29 years of age, while Annie is 22. Witnesses were Jacob's younger sister Sarah, and Annie's older brother William. Jake died in Devils Lake, North Dakota (death cert #3421). His occupation is listed as a carpenter.
