    The Eaglesham lands were already heavily burdened with bonds, the first of which had been granted by his father in 1898. In1917 his father died, and he inherited the Polnoon lands as well. These too were heavily burdened, and his father seems to have left considerable debts. He had to pass the Polnoon lands to his father's trustees, who disburdened them, and sold them oon to William Douglas Weir, BaronWeir of Eastwood and Jame George Weir,who in 1933 passed them on to the Polnoon Estate Company, which was probably in their control. Even this was only delaying financial disaster for the Gilmours, but for the next few years Angus had other things on his mind.
