    Mrs. John James
    There passed to her long rest early Monday morning one of Perth's grand old women in the person of Mrs. John James of Wilson street in her eighty-sixth year.
    Mrs. James formerly,m Annie Reinhart Poole was a daughter of the late John Poole and his wife, Alice White of Elmsley.
    In 1885 she married John James of Elmsley and they made their home on the farm on the Smiths Falls Road now occupied by their son, Archie. In 1928 they with their two daughters moved to Perth where she has since resided, Mr James passed away in 1933.
    Mrs. James was of sterling character beloved by her friends and neighbors alike and will be greatly missed in the community.
    She is a member and constant attender of the Perth Methodist church and in later years of the Port Elmsley church.
    Left to mourn her loss are two daughters, Alice and Hattie of Perth; Mrs. McLaren of the Scotch Line, and a sister, Mrs. Dobbie of Winnipeg.

    November 1817, several families, including four Poole families were preparing to leave the following spring for Canada. This took place and one of the Poole families had 11 members. There was a note in my source re staking claims for 50 acres each in Eastern Ontario.

(C 12 L SW 24, NE 24, SW 25). I have determined that it was John who settled on this parcel of land and that Thomas settled on C4 L6

    arrived with the Poole Family. In 1819 the Brig Atlantic is also recorded as having carried rum and molasses suggesting that after leaving Quebec it travelled on to the West Indies before returning to the British Isles.
