The late John Warrington, whose death in Bathurst on the 28th ult., was chronicled last week, wa born in Cavan, Ireland, in 1825, and came to Canada with his parents when 12 years of age. The settled on a farm at Portland. When a young man, Mr. Warrington came to Fallbrook where he met and married Sarah Erwin. Eight children blessed the union - James and William, Fallbrook; Robert, Copper Cliff; Mrs. William Watt, Fallbrook; Mrs. Miller Robinson, St. Thomas, ND. John was killed Wilber mine, a year ago. Alice and Annie, died in infancy.

D In Bathurst, Friday, Oct. 31", Sara Erwin, wife of Mr. John Warrington, aged 75 years. Born in Bathurst of Irish parentage, she leaves a family of six; John & James, in Bathurst; William, at Blainnore, Alta.; Mrs. Wm. Watt, Bathurst; and Mrs. Miller Robinson, in Dakota. Burial in P1ayfair cemetery.

Mrs. John Warrington

Mrs John Warrington, a well known lady of Bathurst, aged 75 years, died at the home of her son Robert, 11th line Bathurst, last Friday. she had been ailing for three months back , cancer of the stonach the trouble. As the disease progresssed the old woman became more feeble, and as there was no possibility of recovery death came as a relief to her suffering. Mrs Warrington was of Irish extraction, her parents having come over from the Old Land in thee pioneer days. She was born in Bathurst and always lived there. Her maiden name was Sarah Irwin. In the heyday of her youth she met and married Mr. Warrington and to the unipn came a family of six children. John and James live on farms adjoining the homestead, where mother passed away and now occupied by Robert; William is at Blairmore, Alta; Mrs. Wm. Watt, in Bathurst; and Mrs Miller Robinson, in Dakota. Mr. Warrington, husband of deceased, survives his wife.

Funerall took place on Sunday to Playfair Cemetery and the ceremony was conducted by Rev. C.A. Heaven, M.A.

In Dalhousie, June 20th, William Matthie, aged 66 years. Survived by his widow and 3 sons and 5 daughters. A son Robert lives in Lanark. Burial in Crawford Cemetery.

Obituary - Perth Courier - June 26,1896 -
On Saturday, June 20, William Mathie passed away at the age of 65(?) 66(?). About 14 weeks ago Mr. Matthie had his leg fractured in three places by a falling tree and since that time has been confined to his bed and gradually weakening until the end came. His painful illness was born with Christian resignation and fortitude. The deceased was a native of Dalhousie and was widely known and highly respected by the whole community among whom he spent the days of his pilgrimage. The widow and eight of a family who survive, three sons and five(?) daughters are left to mourn his loss, one daughter having died. Mr. Matthie has been a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church and Rev. J. Binnie of McDonald's Corners conducted the funeral service at 10:00 on the 22nd inst. The funeral procession was a large one the interment taking place at the Crawford Cemetery. Robert Matthie of this place is a son of the deceased. Era

says William Matthie died June 20, 1896 at the age of 66 years, 6 months and 8 days. He was a farmer in Dalhousie. It says he was born in Dalhousie Township. He died from a fractured leg which he broke 4 months previous. The physician in attendance was Dr. Downing. The informant of his death was Wm. John Matthie of Dalhousie. William was Presbyterian in religion. The death was registered by Walter Geddes on July 4, 1896.

William married Helen "Ellen" Gavin about 1854. Helen (daughter of Robert Barr Gavin and Sarah Miller) was born in 1836 in Lesmahagow Parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland; died on 13 Dec 1896 in Dalhousie Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Crawford Cemetery, Elphin, Dalhousie Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. Four days after her departed husband, Sarah Miller, relict of the late Robert Gavin of Poland, Dalhousie, in her 66th year, deeply regretted by a large circle of female friends to whom she had been both a mother and a guardian, both in her official capacity and as a resspectful neighbour. There is something melancholy in the death of this aged couple, dying with 4 days of each other, both of the dropsy. Such a singular case scarcely ever occurs more than once in the course of a century. Down in yonder lonely graveyard amidst the surrounding snow, side by side, rises two little earthen mounds containing the mortal remains of this lamented couple. They journeyed through life together for nearly half a century and in death they were not divided.
