Mill Wright, lived and worked in Glen Tay at the woollen mill.
He was accidently killed when his clothing came in contact with a rapidly revolving shaft. He was replacing a belt on a moving pulley at the time and without warning he was caught, it is believed, by a projecting part of the machinery. His body was carried round the shaft many times, which was quite close to the ceiling and before the power could be shut off and the machinery stopped he was so badly injured that he died almost at once.

    Birth:
Munro saga suggest that it may have been 1845 - age 34 at his death however I think 1842 is accurate.

Horrible Accident at Glen Tay - A Man Torn to Pieces on a Revolving Shaft
?/b?On Tuesday morning last, the people of Perth were shocked to hear that an employee in the Glen Tay Woolen Mill, named Alexander Barber had been killed while working in the mill. Further particulars showed that the accident was attended with unusual details. It seemed that the deceased had stepped upon a soap barrel to sew up the small belt connectiong the small governor of the water-wheel with the main shaft, which was fixed about eighteen inches from the ceiling above, and in the basement of the building. The top of the barrel being greasy, his foot slipped and to save himself from falling reached out his hand to grasp the main shaft, which was turning at the rate of 119 revolutions per minute. Instantly his shirt was caught up by the shaft, which drew both it and him around it and hurled his body with tremendous force against the floor above. The blow knocked a hole clean through the floor, and no doubt killed the victim almost instantly. The mutilated body revolved with the shaft with un diminished velocity, each time striking the floor and shattering both body and floor at each revolution. Meantime the accident had thrown the controlling machinery out of gear and it was found impossible to stop the water-wheel by the ordinary method and as a last resort the water was shut off at the gatehead. The machinery then grdually stopped as the water supply diminished, and at last after the body had been carried around the shaft many hundred times, the motion ceased and the mangled corpse taken down.

The remains then presented a sickening spectacle. Both hands and feet had been torn off and thrown some distance. The head was bruised and crushed out of all shape and the body generally was broken and torn apart. Bones wer found driven into the floor above and all over. Flesh, liquid adn bones were strewn about. Alone in the weaving room the looms near the hole in the floor were be-splattered with blood. No wonder those who witnessed the site turned sick with horror. The burial took place the next day and was attended by a very large concourse of friends and neighbours.

Mr. Barber was a popular and respected employee in the factory. He was extremely well behaved and had no enemies. He leaves a widow and six children (incorrect, Three children and wife Janet was expecting their fourth child), and a large number of relatives in the village to mourn his terrible death.

An inquest was held on the remains by Dr. Hendra, coroner, and a verdict of 'accidental death' was returned.
