    Died:
John Jeffrey Mann died at home in Scottsbluff Nebraska on August 30, 2016.

Cremation has taken place and his military marker will be placed in the Harrison Cemetery.

He was the first child born to Robert E. and Marilyn J. (Evers) Mann in Omaha, Nebraska on March 17, 1949.

His family would eventually include William R., Julie M. and Debra M.

John was brought to the Mann Ranch on the Niobrara River in Sioux County in 1951 and was raised to a love of agriculture. He enjoyed opportunities for service and leadership through parental example, the church, 4-H, and FFA. Educated in Nebraska, he graduated from Sioux County High School in Harrison, Nebraska in 1967 and from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1971.

John joined the U.S. Navy in 1971, attended Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island and received his commission in 1973. He served as disbursement officer on the U.S.S. Ranger during the Vietnam War Era and was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1974. During his service in San Diego, he recalled the honor of attending performing arts events with Admiral Zumwalt and his family.

John made his living in Southern California with Bank of America, J.C. Penney, Montgomery Ward, and BP America until his retirement in 2006. During those years, John opened his heart and home to friends and helped to raise their children as if they were his own. "He deserves to be remembered as an amazing human being. He was always there."

He spent his retirement in Mexico, splitting the seasons between Mexicali and Rosarito Beach, enjoying time with his close friends.

John returned to Nebraska in 2013 and "was never warm again" according to him. He lived in Scottsbluff until his death.

John was happiest and found his peace on earth by serving others according to an early Christian upbringing in his home, his church, and the Masonic Lodge.
