    Findlay McLean
On Tuesday afternoon, August 31, 1937, a useful and highly esteemed man, Finlay McLean, passed to his reward. The end came suddenly and unexpected. He had been with his family to attend a picnic at Watson's Corners and was returning home in the late afternoon. Getting out of the car to open the gate in the lane leading to the house, he was seized with a pain about the heart, and in a very brief time his spirit took flight. He had been in usual health and had spent a pleasant day with his friends. His sudden departure was naturally a great shock to his family and to the community in which he lived. However, it was God's plan, and His way is always best.

Mr McLean was born July 16, 1874 and was therefore 63 years of age. His father was james McLean, and his mother, before her marriage, was Miss Katherine Gunn. Two brothers and one sister have passed on. The surviving members are Mr. James McLean of Perth, Mr. Hector McLean of Winnipeg, Mrs. Andrew Paul, of McDonald's Corners, and Mrs. F. E. Sheakley, of San Diego, Cal.

In April, 1905, Mr McLean was married to Miss Annie Cram, who whith one son, Hilyard, still lives. The family had lived comfortably and happily together at the old home where most of Mr. McLean's life was spent. On January 17, 1932, this brother united with the Presbyterian Church, McDonald's Corners, and has lived as a consistent member. At the time of his death he was on the Board of Management, the duties of which office, he had faithfully discharged. His going is a distinct loss to the church and community.

The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church to which he belonged, and were very largely attended by relatives and friends. The minister, Rev. Kenneth McCaskill, conducted the services and paid just tribute to the character of the deceased. The honorary pallbearers were John Cram, George Cram, Andrew Cram, James Cram, Walter Geddes, and Duncan Gunn. The casket was borne by Robert Paul, John Molyneaux, James McBain, William McKinnon, John Gleen and David Miller. The flowers were carried by Jean Ferguson, Kay Ferguson, Arlio Kimberley, Clara McInnis, Betty McInnis and Lois Purdon, and were contributed by the Women's Institute, McDonald's Corners, Mrs. Andrew and Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. J.G. McLean and Miss Marion, Mr. and Mrs. W.R. Purdon, Mr. and Mrs. John Glenn and Miss Ethel. The body was laid to rest in Crawford Cemetery.

Findlay married Margaret Annie "Annie" Crain on 26 Apr 1905 in Clarendon Twp, North Frontenac County, Ontario, Canada. Margaret (daughter of William Crain and Mary Young) was born in 1873 in Oso Twp, Frontenac & Addington County, Ontario, Canada; died on 5 Aug 1962 in Perth, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Crawford Cemetery, Elphin, Dalhousie Twp, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
