    Sarah J. Sheakley, Veteran S.D. Realty Broker, Dies
    Mrs. Sarah Jean Sheakley, 88, a San Diego real estate broker for 32 years and who first came here in 1892, died Thursday night in her home, 4019 Thirtieth St. She had been ill since her retirement last year.

    Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 pm Monday in Bonham Brothers Chapel. Entombment will be in Greenwood Memorial Park.

    Mrs. Sheakley founded teh S.J. Campbell Realty Co. in 1914 after the death of her first husband, D.C. Campbell. After her marriage to Fred E. Sheakley, in 1923, the name was changed to the Sheakley Realty Co., now at 1213 University Ave. She was owner and manager of the business.

    She was a former Vice President of the San Diego Realty and Property Owners Association, a charter member of the San Diego Realty Board and a member of the California State Realty Association.

    Born Sarah Jean McLean in Kensington, Ontario, Canada, Mrs Sheakley came here with her uncle, the late Judge Hector McLean, one of the founders of First Congregational Church. They arrived Jan. 1, 1892.

    She was given private instruction while living at the home of her uncle, at Ninth Ave. and B. Street. Later, she returned to Winnipeg, Canada, the old home of Judge McLean, where she was married to Mr. Campbell.

    Came here in 1901
    The couple lived here, from 1901 to 1907, at Kearney Ave. and Twenty-fourth St. For the next five years, they resided in Los Angeles, but returned here in 1912. Mr. Campbell died the following year.

    Among locations of the realty business were 543 E St., and Sixth Ave, and E St. Mrs. Sheakley made a specialty of downtown business properties and large acreages, and sold some of the largest ranches in the County.

    During World War I, she devoted much time to the welfare of Army men who were ill at Camp Kearny. She wrote articles and poetry for newspapers and magazines. One of her short sketches, "The Service Flag" has been reproduced in many publications.

    Survivors are her husband; a son Argyle McLean Campbell, who succeeded his mother as manager of the business, and a granddaughter.

    James McLean, of McDonald's Corners, father of James G. McLean, Lanark, died on Friday, March 18th, at the age of 85 years. He was a native of Dalhousie, and always lived there. He was married fifty-five years ago to Miss Kate Gunn, and of the union there were born five sons and three daughters.

    James married Catharine "Kate" Gunn.     Death Notice - The Lanark Era Newspaper - Issue of Wednesday, December 11, 1912 -
    At McDonald's Crs. Sun. Dec.8th, Kate Gunn, relict of the late James McLean, aged 82 years. Daughter of the late John Gunn, she was born in Lanark Twp. near Hopetown. About sixty years ago she married Jas. McLean. They had five sons and three daughters; Hugh, McDonald's Crs.; Hector, Winnipeg; John, San Diego, Cal.; and Mrs. Andrew Paul, of Dalhousie, are the survivors. Mr. McLean died two years ago. Burial in Crawford's cemetery.
