Death of Laporte Pioneer
Mrs. Harriet Haskins passed away Tuesday morning.
Mrs. Harriet Haskins died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Christilaw, Tuesday morning at 9:30, death being due to old age. Harriet Thurlow was born in Westport, Ontario, June 7, 1832 where she grew to womanhood. In October 1852, she was united in marriage to Joseph Haskins of Westport. They lived in Westport until January 1883, when they came to Laporte where they purchased the farm upon which they have since resided and where Mr. Haskins died January 2, 1910. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Chas Closs and Mrs. Ed Closs of Canada, Mrs. Mary Wylie, Mrs. George Christilaw, Mrs. Fred Rix, four sons, David, George, Peter, and John, all of Laporte, also 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held at the home of George Christilaw at 1:00 pm and 2 pm at the M.E. Church in Laporte. Rev. W. H. Rule officiated and interment was made in Laporte cemetery.
