    Leisel Lyle Penny, 83, of Medford, died Wednesday (Sept. 30) at Three Fountains Care Center. No local service is planned.
    Mr. Penny was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Quinaby, Ore.

    He was an aeronautic engineer for Lockheed and Northrop and worked on the team that built the Apollo spacecraft. He later tracked satellites as a telemetry technician.

    He moved to the Rogue Valley from Alaska in 1975. After his retirement, he began investing as a hobby and had several clients. He also built and sailed his own sailboat.

    He was married for 40 years to Ruth Luy, who died in 1981. On May 16, 1983, in Reno, he married Helen Kinser, who survives.

    Other survivors include a daughter, Sharon Dowdy of Baker; a son, John Penny of Pendleton; a stepdaughter, Marla Lance of Central Point; a stepson, Tom Abbott of Boulder Creek, Calif.; two half-brothers, Fred Karpurk of Portland and Paul Karpurk of Carson City, Nev.; three grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
