In 1866, only 18 families resided in the lumber and farming town. By 1898, two churches and a post office had been erected.[2]
Restigouche County (2016 population 30,955) is located in north-central New Brunswick, Canada.[2][1] The county is named for the Restigouche River which flows through the county and is famous for its salmon pools, which have attracted wealthy American and Canadian tourists to the region's summer colonies for decades. Forestry dominates the local economy.
Restigouche County is located in northern New Brunswick. Gloucester County is what it was was created from in 1837. The parishes of Addington and Eldon were erected in 1826 as parts of Gloucester County. In 1839 Durham was set off from Eldon. Colborne and Dalhousie were sepaarted from Addington. Balmoral was created from part of Dalhousie in 1876. Grimmer was created in 1916 and Saint-Quentin in 1920. [1]
